BROMELIAD CARE

BROMELIAD CARE PDF

Bromeliaceae are a diverse family of plants native to the rainforests of Mexico, Central, and South America, including Earth Stars, Tillandsias, Bromeliads, and even Pineapples. Unlike most plants, they absorb nutrients from the air rather than soil, and in their natural habitat, they are often seen hanging from tree branches.

Care: Bromeliads thrive indoors or outdoors during summer. Outdoors, protect them from direct sunlight, which can burn their leaves. Indoors, they tolerate low light, but their blooms remain vibrant longer with bright, indirect light. While Bromeliads bloom only once, they produce new plants called pups during or after flowering. When pups are large enough, they can be separated from the mother plant and will eventually bloom on their own.

For Bromeliads: Plant them in soil, allowing the surface to dry out before watering thoroughly. In their native habitat, Bromeliads collect and store water in their central funnel, but indoors, especially in low humidity, watering this way can cause rot.

For Tillandsias: Mist or soak in water one to two times per week.
